Did you know as a University of California student, you are entitled to free bus rides on your campus? Certain Universities extend that offer to other campuses.
Check out your Ride Guides at your schools for bus lines. As for UC Riverside, you can go here or go to any Residential Service Office or resource and pick up a physical guide book. The buses go really far off campus.
Carpool is another alternative. Wait until all your friends need to go grocery shopping, that way you can effectively maximize your gas usage, and even get your friends to chip in.
If it’s not a far trek, this might be the time to invest in a bike, a longboard, scooter or just walk to campus. Think of it as a way to get some exercise in the day. It’s winter so it’s not too terrible. Remember to wear a helmet!
According to Amazon, Sector 9 longboards, a popular brand of longboads, can go for as low as approx $42.88. Bikes are more expensive ranging from approx. $107 .Scooters can go from approx $20, which is a cheap alternative.
Don’t get discouraged by the word, “walk.” Always carrying water and an iPod makes taking the stroll a little more enjoyable. I’ll have days where I’m listening to “Starships” by Nicki Minaj, for those upbeat walking days and I’ll have days where I’m listening to Taylor Swift to enjoy the environment as I walk. This keeps you healthy, and I like to think “An object in motion stays in motion.” So if I walk, I’m more motivated to do stuff later in the day.
A note though, be cautious at all times whether taking the bus or alternative transportation. Be aware of your environment, and if you have an iPod use only one ear bud.
How are you getting around paying for gas?
